PEFC Annual Review 2016

“So much happened at PEFC in 2016, it is hard to know where to start,” said Ben Gunneberg, CEO of PEFC International, as he launched the 2016 PEFC Annual Review.

"From six new national members joining the alliance and the start of our standards revision process, to the continuing successes of our international projects and the work we do to empower our own members; 2016 was a milestone year for our organization."

Anyone can now find out for themself by delving into the newly released 2016 PEFC Annual Review.

A few highlights…

PEFC welcomed new national members from Ghana, Hungary, Macedonia, Republic of Korea, Romania and Thailand. You have to look back to the early days of the organization for so many members joining in one year. These new members join a fantastic network of organizations, and many of their activities can be found throughout the Annual Review.

The international projects go from strength to strength. PEFC collaborates with partners and donors around the world to support the development of national forest certification systems, innovate new ways to get more trees certified and work with smallholders. There are now at least a dozen countries developing national systems and preparing for PEFC membership.

2016 saw the launch of the revision process of the PEFC Sustainability Benchmarks - the standards that form the basis for nearly all of PEFC`s activities, from endorsing national systems to providing certification solutions. The process that will take more than two years, affect the majority of the PEFC standards, and involve hundreds of experts and thousands of stakeholders.

Last but not least, 2016 was the year the world reached 300 million hectares of PEFC-certified forest!

“We hope this Annual Review helps give you a glimpse of the work of the PEFC alliance. And if you feel inspired, please get in contact – we look forward to hearing from you!” concluded Mr. Gunneberg.
